The Maison De Ayakashi is no ordinary apartment complex as Ririchiyo Shirakin soon discovers. Ririchiyo is an emotionally and socially awkward girl who wishes to be alone. Although this wish is short-lived when she encounters Soushi Miketsukami who announces himself that his only purpose is to serve and protect Ririchiyo and his loyalty is presented in quite a comedic fashion.
The characters themselves are mysterious, comedic and presented in an intriguing way. The story is well executed and balanced, and it calmly introduces us to the setting and bombards us with an unexpected change in transition as the episode comes to a close. The plot point won’t be unveiled here as the surprise is part of the appeal but let’s just say you may or may not be expecting it, depending on how you approach the anime or have any prior knowledge of it.
It’s difficult to pinpoint whether this anime belongs in the comedy, supernatural or action genre, since all of these make appearances. Unfortunately we will have to wait till the later episodes to see a specific genre take charge, or the plethora of elements in the first episode may remain throughout the series, which certainly wouldn’t be a problem.
The setting, characters and story of Inu X Boku SS seem promising enough to make this an anime worth watching until the end, and judging by the unveilment of certain things at the climax of this episode, there are certainly more things to discover.
Inu X Boku SS is available to watch on Crunchyroll now.
