Naruto Shippuden Box Set 8 Review

Playing off from the last box-set of Naruto Shippuden, we return to the end of the Akatsuki and subsequently, the end of the fight. Naruto has somewhat mastered his new jutsu but really this does not seem enough, as we learn that this jutsu comes with a great risk to Naruto’s health.

For this reason, Naruto starts in yet more training for another type of jutsu. Meanwhile, a couple of new characters are introduced in the form of Guren, a strong female ninja with some amazing abilities and a strange young boy named Yukimaru – with yet more interesting powers. As these two worlds collide, it is only the powerful who will survive.

As Naruto Shippuden develops, more mature sub-plots begin to appear. This new found maturity brings about a collection of well-thought-out characters and interactions. In particular Guren appears to be a typical ‘bad-guy’ character, but her interaction with Yukimaru develops her into something much deeper.

Older characters are brought back for this box-set and are given some much needed attention, including Hinata Hyuga who gets to show off her powers to great extent. Speaking of powers, there is an introduction of a new type of jutsu – which looks great when used in action sequences and fights.

Some of the newer characters introduced in this box-set don’t seem to obtain voices that match their looks. Coupled with this, the voices sound very forced and on another level to the usual satisfactory voice acting present in Naruto. This is a shame but due to the filler nature of these episodes, we should not have to hear them for too long.

The usual formula of high-octain fight scenes and cool-down comedic moments always works well within Naruto and within this particular set of episodes the comedic scenes are maximised to the fullest. With a climax at the end of a box-set usually present, it is surprising to not receive one, instead we are given a sentimental few scenes which leave the box-set in a calm mood.
