Honma Meiko: Swimsuit Version – Max Factory
Menma (Honma Meiko) is from the anime series AnoHana, We Still Don’t Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day. The series is very beautiful and emotional. Menma is an energetic positive girl, she’s always very sweet and cute.
This version of Menma is a swimsuit version from Max factory and is of 1/7 scale. Although not as popular as other Menma figures she is rather unique and very lovely indeed.
The sculpt is wonderful, her long slender body has been perfected and you truly get a real sense of Menma’s size. However, with her being 1/7 scale she may look a little tall and even appear odd in a collection – as 1/8 scale is more popular. Her tummy is particularly nice with her pelvic bone slightly visible with a smooth flat appeal. Moving on to her back she has a centre dimple and you can slightly spot her butt adding a sexy spark to her. She is very skinny and you can see this evidently around her ankles and elbows which are sculpted superbly.
Menma’s swimwear is gorgeous with outstanding ruffle detailing and really nice crossing straps at the back of the bikini top. The only issue might be the tie on her bottoms, as it looks a little odd. Her hair has some great details, the small tufts at the back not fully in her ponytail add a realistic feel. The windswept ponytail, slightly messy fringe and thin strands falling down her front and arm give her glamorous beach appeal. The see through tips of her hair work really well and the hibiscus flower heightens the glamour. On the other hand while the flower is a really nice touch, it would have been much better if it was removable. Her mouth is outstanding, realistic with a peek of her teeth which is charming – not to mention that cute popsicle.
The ring float is well made and slips on and off smoothly. Menma’s torso is lifted off and a small grove is on the float for her arm to rest in. I think the words on the float are the same words as on Jintan’s shirt.
The paint work is almost perfect and there is only a small amount of bleeding and loss. The main places this can be seen is on her bikini top, the dots and criss cross back. Some may not be fond of the difference of blue colour on her bikini top and bottoms. The blue painted finger nails and tummy decal may also not be to your liking. However these oddities make her unique and different to the other Menma figures and overall flow well together. Her skin is beautifully pale and has the right amount of shading near her pelvis, back dimples, legs and collar. Menma’s hair is impressive the tips are see-through and the shading has slight blue tint. The colour of the flower is an exuberant red but somehow doesn’t steal the show.
Menma’s face is youthful and bright, with big sparkly blue eyes and open mouth with a hint of blush on her cheeks. The shading and colour near her mouth is perfect and the shape of her face is flat but sweet. The expression is a little odd but is a very refreshing look. It’s like she’s just spotted something a bit weird and shocking as she’s about to take another bite of her popsicle.
This version of Menma is certainly unique and refreshing. Will she be joining your collection? Please leave us a comment in the section below.
