Kotoura-San: First Impressions
If you want to watch Kotoura-San, you can do so on Crunchyroll here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/kotoura-san
Kotoura-San is one of those anime that appear to be your generic slice of life anime in a school setting but within the first five minutes manages to shock you completely out of the stereotype.
The first episode introduces us to our main character, a young girl who has the ability to read the minds of those around her. Without knowing she says what they are thinking, whether they are bad thoughts or not. She pushes her friends away and pulls her family apart. Abandoned by her father and then her mother – she grows to accept that she will be lonely forever.
Depressing no? The first episode is brilliantly animated, it strikes deep and completely sets the tone for the episodes to follow. However, our hero meets a young lad who has perverted thoughts and doesn’t care about her powers. A slightly different tone is then set.
So far Kotoura-San is a bit of a mystery. There are characters that appear to be hiding something and it flips from complete drama and emotion, to slice of life comedy fan service. The only way to see where it is going, is to keep watching!
